Chongqing to build new R&D base

Chongqing is planning to build a world-class base in research and development (R&D), as well as a manufacturing hub for electric cars and parts. According to the municipal development and reform commission, the city will cooperate with the U.S. city of Denver, Colorado and invite Chang’an Auto and U.S. carmaker Ford to take part in the development and production of electric motors and vehicles. The city also expects to participate in setting national industrial standards. The National Development and Reform Commission, the country’s top economic planner, and the U.S. Department of Energy will support the project. (December 10, 2008)
