China’s largest ethanol facility to be completed by 2015
China’s National Cereals, Oils and Food Stuffs Corp. (Cofco), expects to complete the country’s largest corn-based cellulosic fuel ethanol facility by 2013-2015. The 1 million metric ton per year (MTPY) ethanol project announced in May is a joint venture between China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. (Sinopec), Cofco and the world’s largest enzymes producer, Novozymes. The project received a 10% subsidy from the Chinese government and will source corn feedstock from China’s northeastern fields. Cofco estimates that by the year 2020, China is expected to have a total ethanol capacity of 10 million MTPY. (December 23, 2010)
