China's forestry agency to develop biofuels plantation

The State Forestry Administration (SFA) and COFCO recently signed an agreement in Beijing on jointly developing forestry bio-energy. The two parties will build a raw materials forest demonstration base, with an annual production capacity of at least 20,000-30,000 tons of biofuels in Guizhou, southwest China, from 2007. SFA has listed the cultivation of energy forests in the 11 Five-Year Program (2006-2010). During the said period, they will mainly develop bioenergy forests in Yunnan, Sichuan, Guizhou, Hebei, Shaanxi, Anhui, Henan, Hunan, Jiangxi, Inner Mongolia, Liaoning and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
