China wants to strengthen ethanol ties with Brazil

China wants to strengthen its sugar and ethanol cooperation with Brazil to diminish its dependency on oil, said Sun Qin, energy vice-minister of China’s National Reform and Development Committee, one of the country’s most important energy agencies. Qin is the leader of a Chinese delegation which visited Brazil to study the Brazilian sugar and ethanol industry. Brazil exported some 3.5 billion liters of ethanol in 2007, which is half of what China needs to supply its entire market. (November 21, 2008)
