China unveils 3rd batch of subsidized energy-efficient cars

A third batch of energy-efficient automobiles which will enjoy the Chinese government’s subsidies were revealed in a catalogue on the website of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). The catalogue listed more than 70 vehicle models from 17 enterprises, including Beijing Hyundai, Brilliance Motor, BYD Auto, ChangAn Ford, Chongqing ChangAn, Dongfeng Motor, Hefei Changhe, Great Wall Auto, Jiangxi Changhe Suzuki, Chery Auto, Shanghai VW, Shanghai Maple, SAIC Motor, Shanghai GM, Tianjin FAW, Jilin FAW and Zhejiang Geely. Specifically, 46 models are domestically produced, representing 62% of the total. Furthermore, 13 models in the third batch came from Great Wall Auto, making the enterprise the biggest winner this time. Chery Auto added nine more models; thus, almost all its vehicle models currently enjoy government subsidy. Eight models from BYD were selected, including the F3 and the G3. To date, a total of 206 models have been named in the three batches, covering almost all vehicle types with a displacement of less than 1.6 liters. (September 30, 2010)
