China, U.S. to embark on joint research on “green car”
China and the United States revealed that they will cooperate on a research project to develop fuel-efficient vehicles. U.S. Energy Secretary Stephen Chu, U.S. Commerce Secretary Gay Locke and China’s Science and Technology Minister Wan Gang said that the initial investment for the research project would be more than US$15 million. The investment will focus on the development of new, advanced fuel-efficiency technologies in a bid to curb vehicle carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Further details of the deal have yet to be revealed. (July 20, 2009)
