China to hit 400 GW of wind power capacity by 2030
The wind energy sector in the U.S. may be in distress, but the number one wind market globally — China — is expanding rapidly. The Asian country is well on the way to reach 200-300 GW in installed wind power capacity by the end of the decade and as much as 400 GW by 2030, the Chinese Renewable Energy Industries Association, the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and Greenpeace say in a recent study.
By 2030, the country’s wind farms could account for 8.4% of China’s total power output. For comparison, in 2011 wind turbines in China produced 71.5 billion kWh or 1.5% of all power generated in the country.
