China to expand refining capacity by 40%
China has approved a plan to expand its refining capacity to 110 million barrels per day (bpd) by 2015, about 40% more than the current level. A report said the newly added refining capacity would come from refinery updating, rather than from building greenfield refineries. Under the new plan, by 2015 China will have several large-scale refineries, each of which will have a production capacity of at least 400,000 bpd. Total production capacity of gasoline, diesel fuel and kerosene would reach six million bpd, far exceeding the current demand of 4.63 million bpd. (October 26, 2009)
