China to develop more renewable, nuclear energy
China will pay more attention to renewable energy and nuclear power development in 2010, lifting the proportion of non-petrochemical energy to total non-renewable energy consumption by about a 0.5 percentage point from a year ago. China is set to adjust the medium- and long-term development strategy, train more professionals, as well as further strengthen the safety and quality supervision in 2010, said Zhang Guobao, director of the National Energy Administration (NEA). In the first 11 months of 2009, the nation’s newly added hydropower and wind power installed capacities represented 29.35% of the total, with a year-on-year growth of 3.0 percentage points. Analysts predicted that around 17,000 megawatts of hydropower and 8,000 megawatts of wind power installed capacities would be added. (December 28, 2009)
