China targets 2 million tons by 2010

China aims to produce 2 million metric tons of ethanol fuel annually by 2010, and all of the increased production capacity will be based on non-grain feedstock, including potatoes and sweet sorghum. Annual output of ethanol fuel will rise further to 10 million tons by 2020. China’s ethanol fuel output is expected to reach 1.32 million tons this year, said Du Fengguang, general engineer at Henan Tianguan Enterprise Group Co., a manufacturer of wheat gluten, based in Nanyang City, Henan Province. The company’s unit, Henan Tianguan Fuel Ethanol Co., is one of four companies that have been approved by the government to produce ethanol fuels. (June 28, 2007)
