China sets goal for new strategic initiatives
China revealed that goals have been set for new strategic industries, with an expectation that these industries will increase China’s GDP by 15% by 2020, in a draft of the country’s twelfth five-year plan. The industries targeted for growth in the plan include alternative energy, biotechnology, new generation information technology, high-end equipment manufacturing, advanced materials, alternative fuel cars, energy saving and environmental protection. The report has been submitted to the annual session of the National People’s Congress for deliberation. (March 5, 2011)
