China regulates access for electric motorcycle producers

According to a circular issued by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), gasoline-fueled motorcycle manufacturers planning to produce electric motorcycles will have to apply to the MIIT for permission. Electric motorcycle manufacturers are required to produce motorcycles following the parameters set in a circular and shall inscribe the motor’s model number and the manufacturing number on the drive motor. Manufacturers must issue a vehicle certificate for each motorcycle and upload the information into a central database. (January 21, 2010)
