China looks into light vehicle fuel consumption indicators

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) is currently seeking the public’s opinion regarding its administrative rules requiring light vehicle owners to indicate the amount of fuels consumed by their cars. The new rules state that Chinese automakers should indicate the fuel consumption of gasoline and diesel engines weighing less than 3.5 tons if the vehicles will be sold within the country. This will help people learn the amount of fuel consumed by the automobile’s engine, as well as an important reference for the government’s acquisition of energy-efficient cars. This shall be implemented on the first of January next year. (July 6, 2009)
