China has over 300,000 alternative fuel vehicles in use

China has already had over 300,000 alternative fuel vehicles in use by far, saving over three million tons of gasoline and diesel every year, according to Zhang Zhihong, an official from China’s Ministry of Science and Technology. Zhang said that China has built intelligent traffic management systems and public traffic service systems in major cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Chongqing and Guangzhou. With the development of new energy auto technologies, China has now about 1,000 electric, hybrid and fuel cell vehicles in demonstration running. (July 2, 2009)
