China Dragon Power to build 30 plants by 2010

China’s Dragon Power Co. plans to build about 30 biomass power plants by 2010, with an estimated total investment of 10 billion yuan (US$1.46 billion), said Chairman Kai Johan Jiang. Dragon Power, which describes itself as China’s largest biomass power generating company, already has 19 power plants in China, and plans to start construction of another 10 next year. “By 2010 we plan to have 50 power plants,” said Jiang, adding that each plant would have a generating capacity of 30,000 kilowatts and would require about 300 million yuan (US$43.8 million) of investment.
