Chevron and PetroChina defer “green gasoline” refining project

PetroChina and Chevron, who jointly own the Singapore Refining Co. (SRC) in Jurong Island, have decided to delay a US$300–400 million project to construct an ultra-low sulfur gasoline unit and in-house co-generation plant, according to the Business Times of Singapore. Front-end engineering and design (FEED) on the project, which was already delayed by one year due to the global economic slowdown, has resumed, although sources quoted by the Business Times now claim it has been deferred indefinitely. The plant was supposed to treat 25,000 barrels per day (bpd) of gasoline currently produced by SRC’s catalytic cracker into Euro IV gasoline, with a maximum sulfur content of 50 parts per million (ppm).
