Chery to sell locally assembled cars in Taiwan

Chery Automobile Co. Ltd., the largest domestic carmaker in China, plans to start selling two Taiwan-made sedan models, the Economic News reported. The two models, the Apola and the Fresh, will be assembled by Taiwan’s Prince Motors Co. and marketed by a new subsidiary, said Zhou Biren, vice president and director of Chery. The Apola is a mid-size sedan, while the Fresh is a sub-compact car equipped with a 1,300-cc gasoline engine and an automatic transmission, the Taiwan-based newspaper said. The Fresh will be the cheapest automatic-transmission car on the island and will have a price tag of US$12,476. (May 10, 2010)
