Chery goes green

China’s Chery Automobile Co. said it plans to build a distribution network for new energy vehicles to pave the way for the commercialization of green cars. Spokesman Jin Yibo said 29 dealers have agreed to join the network. Some would use existing showrooms to sell the fuel-efficient vehicles while others will build separate stores. The nation’s seventh-largest auto maker said it believes the future will encompass hybrid cars powered by alternative fuels as well as pure electric cars. Its first hybrid model, the Chery BSG, has sold several hundred units in cities such as Dalian, according to Jin. (August 4, 2010)
