Carbon surcharge boost prices of petroleum products

Prices rose by PkRs5.92 (US$0.073) per liter as the Pakistani government imposed a carbon surcharge on petroleum product prices starting July 1. According to Petroleum and Natural Resources Advisor Asim Hussain, diesel fuel prices will go up by Rs6.94 (US$0.085) and kerosene by Rs7.48 (US$0.092) per liter. However, gas prices for industrial consumers were lowered by 4% and for residential consumers by 2%. However, gas prices for commercial consumers and CNG remain unchanged. (July 1, 2009)
