Caltex introduces 2% biodiesel blend
Caltex launched in October Australia’s first diesel fuel enhanced with 2% biodiesel. A ceremony attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Transport and Regional Services Mark Vaile was held at Caltex’s Newcastle terminal to mark the start of a major expansion of Caltex’s supply of biofuels. “The introduction of Caltex’s New Generation Diesel is part of our strategy to meet our commitment to the Australian Government’s Biofuels Action Plan targets,” Caltex Managing Director and CEO Des King said. In a first for Australia, all of the 550 million liters per year of diesel fuel supplied by Caltex from its Newcastle terminal will contain biodiesel. The 11 million liters per year of biodiesel required for blending at the Newcastle terminal would be manufactured from both tallow and canola and would be sourced from a number of suppliers in the region.
