Call for new efficiency standards

The Australian government should introduce fuel efficiency standards mandatory for all new cars sold in Australia and review the standards regularly, the Australian Conservation Foundation urged. The recommendation came as ACF Sustainable Transport Campaigner Gail Broadbent showed her support for more sustainable motoring by participating in the Global Green Rally. “Australian cars should meet at least the European standard and should meet mandatory targets for alternative fuels on a greenhouse weighted basis, without favoring particular technologies or fuels,” Broadbent said.
