California to set tougher emissions policies
Putting “law and science first”, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) granted California’s request to set more stringent vehicle emissions regulations. The state can enforce its emissions standards starting with the current model year, EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson said in a statement. The U.S. Clean Air Act gives EPA the leeway to let California set its own emissions rules due to the severe condition of its air quality. (June 30, 2009)
