BS III standard auto fuel to be available in India

Oil public sector units have upgraded all their facilities to supply BS III grade petrol and diesel fuel in the India from June 16. Experts say running new generation engine on inferior quality fuel might cause severe damage to the internal parts resulting in poor fuel efficiency and reduced engine life. Availability of BS III grade oil would mean BS III and IV compliant engines would achieve greater efficiency. Two- and three-wheelers would adapt to BS III norms in Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Pune, Kanpur, Agra, Surat, Lucknow and Sholapur from April 1 this year. However, the rest of country will adhere to BS III emission norms for all categories of vehicles, including four- wheelers, only from October 1. (June 15, 2010)
