Brazil's biodiesel sales grow 15.4% year-on-year
Brazilian biodiesel sales via auctions held by the country’s petroleum agency ANP totaled 455,450 cu m (1.608m cu ft) in January and February 2013, up 15.4% year-on-year, vegetable oil industry association Abiove reported.
The main biodiesel producing states in January and February were Rio Grande do Sul with 28% of the total, and Goias and Mato Grosso with 21% and 12%, respectively.
Soybean oil was the main raw material for biodiesel production, accounting for 67% of the total, followed by beef tallow and cotton oil with 22% and 5%, respectively.
According to Abiove, biodiesel prices have grown 5.4% to an average BRL 2.38 (US$1.17) per liter in the first two months of 2013 in comparison to the same period last year. The hike was a result of the high prices of soybean oil.
