Brazilian president appoints new ANP director
Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff announced the appointment of Magda Chambriard as the new director-general of the ANP, Brazil’s oil regulator. Chambriard replaces Haroldo Lima, who held the position from 2005 to 2011. Chambriard has been a member of the ANP board of directors since 2008. An engineer with more than 20 years’ working experience at Petrobras, she is the second woman to be appointed recently to a key position in the industry. The ANP continues to play an important role in drawing up regulations for the implementation of new laws, addressing abuses in the industry such as the formation of fuel-pricing cartels or the sale of adulterated fuels, seeking improvements in operational activities, particularly with regard to platform safety, and identifying new areas for exploration. Recently, it has been tasked with regulating alternative fuels as well. (March 12, 2012)
