Brazil to put in place new regulations
Brazil’s Agriculture Minister Wagner Rossi said the government plans to put new regulations in place to protect supplies of biofuels and stabilize prices to attract investment in the sector. Rossi announced that the National Petroleum Agency (ANP) will likely oversee the ethanol sector. Rossi states, “The idea is that ethanol is a fuel and, as such, should have an appropriate regulation for a fuel.” At the present time ethanol falls under the jurisdiction of the Agricultural Ministry as an agricultural commodity. If ethanol is treated as a fuel, the ANP could oversee all aspects of the market. (April 8,2011)
