Brasken to supply “green” PE to Procter & Gamble
Brazilian petrochemical company Brasken will supply sugarcane ethanol-based polyethylene (PE) to Procter & Gamble’s (P&G) cosmetic lines– Pantene, Max Factor and Cover Girl–packaging. Brasken expects to build “green” resin this month at the Triunfo petrochemical hub in Rio Grande do Sul state. Investments om the plant will reach 500 million reais (US$284.9 million). Pantene is the first to use the “green” resin and the biopolymer packaging and will be available by 2011, according to Gabriela Onofre, P&G corporate affairs director in Brazil. Other firms that will use this “green” resin are Japan’s automobile manufacturer Toyota, Tetra Pak, Johnson & Johnson, Estrela, Shiseido, Acinplas and Petropack. (August 12, 2010)
