BPCL launches campaign to curb fuel adulteration
India’s Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has begun a program to curb adulteration and theft of petrol and diesel fuel. Dubbed “Pure for Sure Platinum,” the nationwide campaign calls for the installation of CCTV cameras at fuel stations for additional security. GPS tracking devices are also being installed in tankers to detect unplanned stops and diversions from the set route. Additionally, BPCL is installing automated fuel transfer systems that generate bills which are connected to Bharat’s office in Mumbai. Five out of 42 petrol stations in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad are already using the system and 10 more BPCL retail fuel stations will be added to the Platinum list by March 2012. Bharat Petroleum says these measures are aimed at gaining customers’ confidence by ensuring them that they are getting quality fuel and the right quantity for their money’s worth. (November 9, 2011)
