Bosch to invest US$559 million in Indian operations
Bosch Group, a German technology and services company, announced that it will invest Rs 2,500 crore (US$559 million) in its Indian operations by 2013. The investments will include raising plant capacity, increasing corporate diversification and increasing research and development. Bosch Ltd., its flagship company in India, would receive Rs 1,300 crore (US$290.6 million) to set up a new electrical drive manufacturing unit in Chennai. A greenfield plant at Sanand near Ahmedabad would also be developed by 2012. Other plants are also being considered. Bernd Bohr, member of the board of management for Robert Bosch GmbH and chairman of the automotive group, said that the number of employees at Bosch India will grow from 22,000 in 2011 to 28,000 by 2013. A new venture in India includes providing software engineering and support for global power train electronics development for gasoline and diesel engines, as well as hybrid and electric vehicles.
