BMW, VW to launch fuel-efficient models in Japan
BMW’s Japanese sales unit and Volkswagen Group Japan (VGJ) are looking to launch fuel-efficient models in Japan, which will qualify for the government’s tax subsidy program, reports the Nikkei. BMW Japan said that it will launch models in the revamped 5 Series of luxury sedans with reduced vehicle weight and eight-speed automatic transmission. The entry-level 528i, achieving fuel-efficiency of 10.6 km/l, will also qualify under the Japanese green car incentive scheme. It will be priced at ¥7.15 million (US$77,248). (March 26, 2010)
