BMW to expand capacity in Malaysian assembly plant
BMW Group Malaysia said it will increase the production capacity of its Kulim assembly plant by 50%, in response to increasing demand for BMW’s luxury vehicles in the country. This will likely boost locally assembled vehicle sales to more than 5,000 units in 2011, from 4,500 in 2010. The Malaysian government recently announced that it is implementing its B5 biodiesel mandate, which increases the attractiveness of BMW’s new diesel-powered BMW 528I M Sport, the BMW 520d model and the BMW X1 sports activity vehicle. The plant expansion will add 80 new skilled jobs. (June 2, 2011)
