BASF applies for patent for lubricant composition
BASF SE filed patent application No. 1120/CHENP/2012 A (international classification number C10M133/12) on February 3, 2012, for the lubricant composition invented by David Eliezer Chasan, Paul Fasano, Margaret Egiziaco and Vineet Bajpai. BASF SE, the largest diversified chemical company in the world, is headquartered in Ludwigshafen, Germany.
According to the Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trade Marks, a lubricant composition is one that is suitable for use in diesel engines and can resist degrading caused by oxidative by-products of biodiesel fuel. Its components are: (A) base oil, (B) at least one diphenylamine antioxidant, and (C) at least one antioxidant selected from the combination of sulfur containing a phenolic antioxidant and a phenyl-alpha-naphthylamine antioxidant. A method is used in forming the lubricant composition. In this method, the base oil has an initial oxidation value that measures according to ASTM D6186. Also, the lubricant composition has a final oxidation value (also measured according to ASTM D6186) that is equal to or greater than the first oxidation value of the base oil when the lubricant composition is measured, containing up to about 6 wt% of the biodiesel fuel.
