Bangladesh to source oil products from Kuwait

State-owned Bangladesh Petroleum Corp. (BPC) said it will buy about 1.8 million tons of petroleum products from Kuwait in 2009-2010. The fuel will be for consumption in 2009 and 2010. A government purchase panel headed by Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith approved plans by the energy and mineral resources division to buy the fuel from state-run Kuwait Petroleum Corp. (KPC). BPC will import close to 700,000 tons of diesel fuel, kerosene, gasoline jet fuel in 2009 and around 1.1 million tons in 2010. KPC is a major source of refined products for the BPC, which imports between 3.4 million and 3.8 million tons of oil annually. Bangladesh also imports oil from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, India, the Philippines and Malaysia. (May 25, 2009)
