Bangchak to phase out benzene 91 production after 2012

Bangchak Petroleum Public Co. is pressing ahead with the promotion of renewable energy use in Thailand, with the planned phasing out of benzene 91 production and distribution after 2012 in the hope to promote the use of E20 and E85 gasohol instead. Bangchak President Anusorn Saengnimnuan cited that with the uptrend of flex-fuel vehicles (FFV) used among the people, designed to run on ethanol-gasoline blend, the company would accordingly promote the use of renewable energy by announcing benzene 91 production and distribution phase out after 2012, to be replaced by gasohol E20 and E85, while 500-600 gas stations to be established nationwide. According to the plan, ethanol use in the country will be increased in the next five years, thus benefiting ethanol producers and related farmers. (July 15, 2010)
