Balmer Lawrie to invest Rs 3-5 billion in new projects
India’s diversified public sector unit Balmer Lawrie & Co. Ltd. has announced its plan to invest around Rs 3-5 billion (US$56 to 93 million) over a period of two to three years in various new projects, including container manufacturing and a multi-modal logistic hub. Of the total investment, Rs1 billion (US$18.6 million) will go towards establishing a container manufacturing facility at Navi Mumbai by the end of 2014. Chairman and Managing Director Viren Sinha said the new project should increase the company’s production capacity of nearly four million barrels annually by nearly 30%.
“Balmer is also awaiting the shipping ministry’s approval to start its Rs1.5 billion (US$ 27.9 million) multi-modal logistic hub at Vishkhapatnam,” Sinha said. (September 28, 2012)
