Autorickshaw drivers using kerosene, instead of gasoline
Responding to a government note, the transport department is going to take stringent steps against drivers who use kerosene as fuel for their autorickshaws in Bangalore, India. Autorickshaw drivers have been mixing subsidized kerosene, which is intended for cooking, with auto oil to lower their operating costs. “We have deployed a special team to monitor the pollution emitted by the autos. There will be random checks on roads. If adulterated fuel is found in these vehicles, we’ll file a case against the driver and seize the registration permit of the vehicle,” Bhaskar Rao, city transport commissioner, said. (August 8, 2009)
