Automobile fuel efficiency in S. Korea improves

South Korea’s Ministry of Knowledge Economy says the fuel efficiency of new cars sold in the country has improved by 7% from a year ago. According to a ministry study of more than 1.2 million cars with up to 10 seats, which were sold in South Korea last year, the vehicles ran an average of 12.27 kilometers (km) on one liter of fuel. Diesel vehicles drove an average of 13.48 km per liter, longer than their gasoline or liquefied petroleum gas counterparts. The ministry said that the average fuel efficiency of new vehicle fleets has improved due to the development of auto-technologies that help reduce fuel consumption. (April 29, 2010)
