Auto LPG stations sign MOU

The Pakistan State Oil (PSO) and the Associated Group (AG) have signed a memorandum of understanding for setting up auto liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) stations to provide cheaper alternative fuel to motorists. Irfan Qureshi, PSO managing director (MD) said “It is our pleasure to join hands with the AG, which is the largest producer, transporter and marketer of LPG in Pakistan, to set up LPG auto gas stations.” According to an economic survey carried out for 1,000 cubic centimeter (cc) cars, Mogas available at a price of Rs60.46 (US$0.73) per liter gives a mileage of 10 kilometers (kms) per liter whereas high-speed diesel fuel priced at Rs61.41 (US$0.74) gives a mileage of 12 kms per liter. On the other hand, LPG priced at Rs35.3 (US$0.42) per kilogram (kg) gives the maximum mileage of 16 kms, beating compressed natural gas (CNG) which only gives 10 kms per kg. (August 28, 2009)
