Amyris expands production capacity

Amyris, Inc. announced the expansion of its production capacity, with a second Biofene™ renewable farnesene facility in Leon, Spain. The facility in Spain is owned by Antibioticos, S.A. Production volume was not stated. Currently, Amyris produces Biofene at a facility in Piracicaba, Brazil, which is owned by Biomin do Brasil Nutricao Animal Ltda. John Melo, CEO of Amyris said, “We are seeing strong customer demand for squalane and our renewable diesel, and this increase in production also supports our expected near-term commercialization of Amyris base oils.” The company expects to sell Biofene for use in industrial applications or for the production of renewable products including squalane, lubricating base oil, finished lubricants and diesel fuel. Amyris currently has production agreements with Antibioticos, Biomin, Paraiso Bioenergi Ltda. and Tate & Lyle Ingredients Americas, Inc. (July 25,2011)
