Alternative motorbike fuel a pipe dream for now
Da Nang University Director Bui Van Ga has devised a new liquid petroleum gas converter, which increases motorbikes’ fuel efficiency and decreases harmful exhaust, making it not only cost effective but also environmentally friendly. The kits allow motorists to use both LPG and regular petrol in their tanks. Ga was granted an exclusive patent by the National Office of Intellectual Property of Viet Nam in August 2003. So far, the Haesun factory and Da Nang Technical and Commercial JSC (Datechco), both of which helped Ga with research and development, have manufactured or converted about 150 experimental bikes using the kits. “The primary obstacle for us now is the lack of stations with the right gas. In fact, there is only one station which provides LPG fuel in Da Nang,” said Ga. (June 24, 2007)
