Airlines plan “green teams” to cut emissions
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is sending its own experts around the world to tackle greenhouse gas emissions as the industry grapples with growing pressure to cut emissions. IATA says technological advances, alternative fuels, better routing and a global carbon trading scheme could enable the industry to reduce its emissions to 50% of their 2005 levels. IATA’s “green teams” have made 105 visits to airlines over the last four years, saving 36 million tons of CO2 by an array of initiatives from making aircraft lighter to improving fuel efficiency.
