ADNOC acts to prevent diesel smuggling

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), a state-run oil company, announces that it is taking immediate measures to stop the smuggling and resale of diesel fuel sold at its retail stations within the United Arab Emirates (UAE).  According to the company, the smuggling of diesel fuel is occurring at retail stations and then smuggled to neighboring countries.  ADNOC will issue pre-paid cards to equally distribute diesel fuel to retail customers. For commercial customers in the construction sector, they will be required to show identification papers and papers indicating the amount of diesel fuel needed. The UAE, although one of the world’s largest oil exporters, has been importing nearly one million tons of gasoline annually due to a lack of refining capacity. (June 17, 2011)
