83-octane gasoline may be removed from the market

Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade is looking at ways to suspend the importation, production and distribution of low-octane unleaded gasoline (Research Octane Number or RON) 83 without negatively impacting domestic companies.
The ministry will also coordinate with local authorities to conduct inspections regarding the sale and distribution of this specific petrol grade.
The use of RON 83 gasoline is currently very limited in the domestic market, making up just 9% of total fuel available in the market over the past four years.
A similar plan was floated in 2004, and quantities were restricted at that time by market monitoring units. (February 4, 2013)
