ISO to convene expert group to develop test methods on greases
The International Organization for Standardization or ISO will start a working group for the development of test methods on greases in June. The first meeting of the working group will be held in Berlin, Germany, according to Olav Hoeger, who is the chairman of the European Lubricating Grease Institute’s (ELGI) Working Group on Test Methods.
Hoeger is in charge of grease product development with Shell Global Solutions based in Hamburg, Germany. He made the announcement during the ELGI Annual General Meeting today in Barcelona, Spain.
The convenor of this activity within ISO is Josef Barreto-Pohlen, who is the technical manager of greases for Quaker Chemical B.V., based in the Netherlands.
Barreto-Pohlen said the activity aims not only to update some of the test methods that are currently in use all over the world, but also to internationalize and streamline test method development.
He said at least five countries already have indicated their participation by sending technical experts to the working group meeting, including Germany, the United States and Japan, He also urged participation from other countries.
