IOC launches high-octane STORM-X racing fuel

Indian Oil Corp. (IOC) has unveiled its new high-octane racing fuel, STORM-X, at the Madras International Circuit during the Indian National Car Racing Championship. This groundbreaking initiative, inspired by IOC Chairman Shrikant Madhav Vaidya, underscores the company’s commitment to innovation and excellence in advanced fuel technology.

The launch event celebrated the strategic partnership between IOC and the Madras Motor Sports Club (MMSC), aimed at elevating the quality and competitiveness of motorsports in India. V Satish Kumar, director (Marketing) of IOC, officially introduced STORM-X by unveiling its brand logo in the presence of notable figures such as Alok Sharma, director (R&D) of IOC, and key MMSC officials including President Ajit Thomas, Secretary Prabha Shankar, and Vice President Vicky Chandhoke.

Kumar highlighted IOC’s history of pioneering high-quality fuels and lubricants, including the country’s first 100 octane fuel, XP100, and the environmentally friendly XTRAGREEN diesel. He emphasised IOC’s dedication to supporting motorsports, citing their role as the title sponsor of MotoGP Bharat 2023 and their partnership with FIM for the Asia Road Racing Championship from 2024 to 2026.

STORM-X: A new era of racing fuel

STORM-X is designed to deliver maximum performance while adhering to Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) regulations. With a Research Octane Number (RON) of approximately 98, STORM-X offers superior combustion and power, reducing engine knock and enabling higher compression ratios and aggressive ignition timing. This ensures optimal performance and reliability for high-performance racing cars.

In line with the growing emphasis on sustainability in motorsport, STORM-X incorporates sustainable fuel components, to help reduce the sport’s carbon footprint. This innovative fuel blends performance with environmental responsibility.

Thomas expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration with IOC, recognising it as a pivotal step in enhancing motorsports technology and providing an unparalleled racing experience in India. The partnership between IOC and MMSC will see IOC supplying race fuels and lubricants, along with branding at the venue and on vehicles during the Indian National Racing Championships.

IOC’s efforts align with the mission of Atmanirbhar Bharat, focusing on import substitution by producing aviation gasoline (AVGAS 100LL) for Flying Training Organizations and defense forces. The company also supplies reference fuels required by certification bodies and automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
