Indian Oil appoints Suman Kumar as Planning Director

Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), one of India’s leading public sector enterprises, has appointed Suman Kumar as director (Planning & Business Development), effective 26 February 2025. The appointment follows approval from the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MOP&NG).

Kumar, 56, is a veteran industry professional with over three decades of experience at Indian Oil, spanning LPG operations, sales, energy conservation, and carbon emission reduction. He holds a Mechanical Engineering degree from MIT Muzaffarpur and an MBA from a reputable Indian university. His credentials also include an Advanced Management Programme and several specialised courses in business development.

Before his appointment as Director (Planning & Business Development), Kumar headed Indian Oil’s Exploration & Production (E&P) division, overseeing assets in India and nine other countries. He also led the Gas business, playing a key role in LNG sourcing and project conceptualisation. His leadership has been instrumental in expanding the company’s petrochemical, city gas distribution, and renewable energy sectors.

Additionally, Kumar serves as the non-executive chairman of Mercator Petroleum Limited, a company acquired through insolvency proceedings, and holds board positions in several overseas joint ventures and subsidiaries.
