ICONIC Base Oil becomes Nynas distributor in Brazil

ICONIC Base Oil has been appointed as the official distributor for the Nynas Naphthenics product range in Brazil, effective 19 February 2025.

The strategic partnership enables ICONIC to distribute Nynas’ range of base oils, process oils, and transformer oils.

“We consider this partnership strategic since it brings the synergistic combination of leading technology and reliable and on-time logistics in the country, positively impacting the cost of inventory and ownership. Local production of specialties will give better competitiveness and an excellent product for our customers,” said Marcelo Guimarães, executive manager of ICONIC Base Oil. 

Guimarães also noted that the agreement complements ICONIC’s premium product portfolio, which includes Chevron, Nexbase, and ACELEN products.

ICONIC, established in 2018 as a joint venture between Chevron and Ipiranga, is a leading player in the Brazilian lubricants and base oil industry. The company operates through distinct business units:

• Lubricants Division: Offers Ipiranga-branded lubricants and Chevron’s Texaco brand, produced in two manufacturing facilities in Brazil.
• Base Oil Solutions Unit: Launched in late 2022, this division operates independently from the lubricants sector and focuses on the commercialisation of base oils.

ICONIC Base Oil operates as an independent business unit, separate from its lubricants division, with a highly qualified technical team. It boasts an exclusive terminal in Rio de Janeiro for ship unloading and multiple storage sites, ensuring shorter lead times for customer deliveries.

Nynas: Strengthening its presence in South America

Nynas, a Swedish specialty oil company, is a global supplier of naphthenic base oils, essential for a wide range of industrial applications. While it previously reduced its direct sales presence in some regions, the company has maintained a strong foothold in South America through a depot-based supply system.

The appointment of ICONIC Base Oil as an official distributor in Brazil marks a renewed focus on the South American market, ensuring customers benefit from enhanced supply chain reliability and local availability of Nynas’ high-performance specialty oils.

Prior to appointing ICONIC Base Oil as its official distributor in Brazil, Nynas managed its naphthenic specialty oils distribution in the region through direct customer service channels. This direct approach allowed Nynas to maintain close relationships with its Brazilian clientele, ensuring tailored solutions and support. The recent partnership with ICONIC Base Oil signifies a strategic shift towards leveraging local expertise to enhance distribution efficiency and market reach within Brazil.

Nynas operates key production facilities in Europe, including the Nynäshamn refinery in Sweden, which has a capacity of approximately 30,000 barrels per day. The company is also investing in sustainability initiatives, such as the Newflow energy efficiency project, expected to be operational by summer 2025.
