Honda rebrands motorcycle oils under ‘Pro Honda’ line

Japanese vehicle maker Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has announced a comprehensive rebranding of its genuine motorcycle oil products under a new name – Pro Honda – set to roll out across the Japanese market from April 2025.

The new Pro Honda range comprises a full line-up of eight engine oils – five for 4-stroke engines and three for 2-stroke engines – along with brake fluid and cushion oil, developed to enhance the riding experience while addressing environmental performance. The updated packaging features a redesigned logo that, according to the company, embodies the Pro Honda brand concept of “empowering both rider and product,” and reflects the premium nature and quality of the oils.

“We’ve created this line-up to match the specific characteristics of each model and the wide range of usage conditions of our customers,” Honda said in its news release.

The new 4-stroke oil range focuses on low-viscosity blends that reduce friction and improve engine start-up performance while maintaining oil film stability under high temperatures. The Racing and Premium Sports variants use fully synthetic base oils, while Sports, Standard, and Scooter oils are formulated with semi-synthetic base stocks.

All five meet API SL – the highest grade under the American Petroleum Institute’s classification for motorcycle oils – and conform to JASO MA or MB specifications, with MA designated for general motorcycles and MB for scooters.

Prices range from JPY 2,090 ( USD 13.79) to JPY 4,400 (USD 29.04) per litre (including 10% consumption tax).

Enhanced range for performance and everyday use

The Racing 0W-30 is Honda’s flagship oil for high-performance engines, developed using insights gained from its racing activities. Despite its low viscosity, it maintains strong film strength under high loads and temperatures.

The Premium Sports 10W-30 variant also uses 100% synthetic oil, delivering smooth engine rotation and reduced friction loss, ideal for riders who demand top-tier performance.

Meanwhile, Sports 10W-40 and Standard 5W-30 offer a more accessible option with excellent low-temperature characteristics and fuel economy benefits, designed for everyday riders. The Scooter 5W-30, also semi-synthetic, is tailored for 4-stroke scooters.

Two-stroke and functional oils

For 2-stroke engines, Honda introduces three options: GR2, a high-performance oil for sportier models; Super Fine, designed for cleaner combustion in scooters; and 2 Super, a balanced entry-level oil offering solid cleanliness and anti-seizure properties.

The company is also launching Brake Fluid DOT4, developed specifically for Honda motorcycles, and two types of cushion oil: SAE 5W for motocross bikes and SAE 10W for sport models.

Honda says that beyond meeting global industry standards like SAE, API, and JASO, the new Pro Honda oils are tested against its own high-temperature, high-load, and long-duration internal evaluation benchmarks to ensure optimal quality and engine protection.
