HIF Global announces first e-Fuels project in Brazil at Port of Açu

HIF Global, a leading company in the e-Fuels industry, has announced its first major project in Brazil after securing a land reservation contract with Port of Açu. This new facility, set to produce up to 800,000 tons of e-Methanol annually, represents a significant step forward in the production of carbon-neutral fuels in Latin America.

The project will be developed within the Port of Açu complex, located in Rio de Janeiro, a key logistics and industrial hub. Port of Açu has already obtained a preliminary environmental licence for the development of a hydrogen and derivatives hub, positioning itself as a key player in Brazil’s renewable energy transition. HIF Global’s new venture is expected to attract further investment and boost the local economy while contributing to global efforts in reducing carbon emissions.

Cesar Norton, president and CEO of HIF Global, stated, “The Port of Açu will be fundamental in building a sustainable future. We have been operating the world’s first e-Fuels facility in Chile, demonstrating that e-Fuels are a real solution to fight climate change now. We are excited to bring this development to Brazil.”

E-Fuels, such as e-Methanol, are produced using renewable energy-powered electrolyzers that separate hydrogen from water. The hydrogen is then combined with recycled carbon dioxide to produce carbon-neutral fuels. These e-Fuels can be used directly in existing engines without modification, offering a near-term solution to reduce emissions from various sectors, including shipping, aviation, and road transport.
