GS Caltex launches lubricant brand for EVs

South Korea’s GS Caltex announced on June 14 the launch of Kixx EV, GS Caltex’s lubricant brand exclusively for electric vehicles (EVs).

Kixx EV’s lubricant product line-up for electric vehicles include a transmission lubricating oil with gear reducer or motor reducer integrated and a cooling system lubricating oil that cools the heat generated by the battery. Lubricants for electric vehicles play an important role in the efficient operation and life extension of parts by preventing abrasion of vehicle parts, as well as improving battery operation efficiency by regulating electric vehicle batteries to maintain an appropriate temperature.

GS Caltex has already completed the development of transmission lubricants for electric vehicles, and is now developing lubricants for cooling systems for electric vehicles.

GS Caltex is participating in an EV lubricant consortium recently formed by the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI), based in San Antonio, Texas, U.S.A., and is developing various lubricants for electric vehicles at a global level. In addition, GS Caltex is supplying transmission lubricants to domestic electric vehicle manufacturers based on this technology.

“In order to respond to the rapidly changing eco-friendly mobility market, we will continue our efforts to develop lubricant products for electric vehicles, starting with Kixx HYBRID, an engine oil for hybrid vehicles launched last year,” an official from GS Caltex said.

The official added that GS Caltex will continue to develop eco-friendly lubricants, as well as eco-friendly product containers made from recycled materials.
